Charging

Getting work done goes faster when there are many people pulling on the oars.

Spending time with you comes free of charge. Understanding what you want your website to do for you is critical, so this is the most important part of the project. I never charge for this. At that point we may decide to not work together. I may show you some generic examples, too. Free.

The advice is free, but the work is going to cost you. You can take my guidance and do it yourself. Doing the work yourself will subtract from the work you also need to do to move your idea into reality. Remember, you need a business plan to keep you on track, and to show to investors, contributors or the bank (Uncle Henry might be your bank, but he wants to see your plan in writing, too).

Getting the work done goes faster when there are many people pulling on the oars. Especially when each person is working in parallel.

Here’s the nitty gritty: I charge $60 per hour.

Once I have set up your website, I will show you how to maintain it and update it for free. Hey, life is short and mine could end leaving you in the lurch, so you’re going to learn this with me by your side.

I am not an artist. I am a problem-solver with an artistic bent. So, I can create/edit reasoably nice videos, pictures and graphics for you.

I am retired and love doing this work, so I am asking less than I did when I was in the business - certainly less than my car mechanic. He wants $100 an hour to fix my brakes. I pay it because stopping is important to me.

But, me working for free makes it drudgery.

Expect even the simplest website to take me about 10 hours, so about $600. After that I am at your service, evolving your look and content. Based on your request, I will charge you $15 for each 15 minutes I spend on your request. Fixing my errors is free. Experimentation or learning about how to create what we’ve agreed to is also free. That’s where I differ from others. They might charge you for learning to do something new — hours billed to you for their learning and testing, but 15 minutes of actual work.

I will share my experiences working with Social Media, helping to guide you in that area. If you want me to create content, I am happy to do that, and will charge you for that.

Bottom line: Let’s talk.
